5 REASONS TO BOOK A MALDIVES SURF CHARTER WITH RENEGADE

,

Car park conversations…

You’re getting changed in a cold, dark car park after surfing some less-than-average waves. A mate pipes up with “let’s do a Maldives surf charter next year!”

Unsurprisingly, everyone is in full agreement whilst pulling off 5mm of rubber – so cold you can barely get the key out of your lock box.

Then, inevitably, life gets in the way. Before you know it, the opportunity has gone. Instead of sunshine and tubes, it’s groundhog day of family commitments and onshore closeouts.

But it doesn’t have to be this way…

Besides the 15 scheduled coaching trips we ran this year, we also ran a handful of private surf charters. A boat full of friends and/or family, chasing waves and creating lifelong memories. These trips covered the gamut from as cheap and ‘core’ as a surf charter gets, to 10 days of pure comfort in paradise. Regardless of which end of the spectrum you choose, it truly is as dreamy and life-changing as it sounds.

A Maldives surf charter with Renegade Surf Travel truly is the holy grail of surf travel (even if we say so ourselves). So see this email as your call to action. There’s rarely a perfect time, but there’s also rarely a better time than now.

We have some amazing offerings for the 2025 season, and with just a few weeks left until the New Year, you’ll be stepping onto the runway in Malé in no time.

Read on for 5 reasons you should book your Maldives Surf Charter with Renegade Surf Travel, below:

Theia. There’s a reason we use this boat for our signature coaching trips… She’s the best surf charter boat in The Maldives, in our humble opinion.

1. Flexibility

Unlike our signature coaching trips – which run for 10-days on fixed dates throughout the season – private trips are tailored to suit your particular needs. Got 2-weeks off work and want to maximise surf time? Then go all out with a 12-day Central Atolls trip. Spot a last-minute swell and want to score pumping surf with minimal cruising? 5 days in the Malé Atolls could be all it takes!

Of course, this does come down to the availability of the chosen boat. We suggest booking ahead to ensure you can get your chosen dates on a boat that suits you and your crew best.

Haira. An absolutely fantastic option for groups of 7+.

2. Boat for all budgets

Unlike many surf travel agencies, we don’t simply offer all available boats on our website. That’s because some are incredible, but some are flat-out terrible. We only recommend boats that we know fall into the former camp. A picture can tell a thousand lies and just because a boat looks great online, doesn’t mean the maintenance, crew or food is up to scratch. When you book a boat through Renegade, you know it is personally vouched for, regardless of where it falls in the budget scale.

At one end of the scale you have smaller boats with 3/4 cabins. These give an opportunity for small, budget conscious groups to score a boat trip, surfing the same incredible waves, for way less than you might think. At the other end of the scale we have access to super luxurious charter boats with upwards of 10 cabins, en-suites, A/C and all of the trimmings.

That said, we have have a handful of boats that we use time and time again as they really hit a sweet spot for size, comfort, value and service. As they’re tried and tested by us, we can be sure that both the boat itself and the customer service onboard matches the high-level of quality you can expect from a Renegade trip. This isn’t the case with every boat in the region.

Fascination. Perfect for families or groups up to 4 looking for a luxurious experience. She’s twice as fast as a standard surf charter, too, meaning less time cruising and more time shredding.

3. Quality guiding & no fixed itineraries

Strangely, some surf charter companies stick to a fixed itinerary for their trips. Day 1, surf here, Day 2, surf there and so on…As surfers, we know this is not the way a surf trip should run.

On a Renegade trip, there is no fixed itineraries and everything is based around the forecast, local knowledge and finding the types of waves that YOU want to surf.

We highly recommend adding a local surf guide to your trip to ensure you’re in the right place at the right time. Renegade works closely with a small number of trusted guides, ensuring you’re always one step ahead of any crowds wherever possible.

In addition, whilst scoring the best waves possible will always be at the forefront of any surf trip, the other incredible activities that this region has to offer shouldn’t be left as an after-thought. You’ve no doubt seen the incredible snorkelling on offer, as well as world-class fishing. You’ll be sailing past hundreds of uninhabited islands – the perfect spot for a group picture, evening BBQ or just to stretch out the sea legs.

It’s these extra things that truly make a Maldivian surf trip unique, so ensuring they aren’t forgotten about is essential.

Assidha is our go-to for our Southern Atolls trips. Comfortable, with AC and en-suite rooms to keep a premium feel.

4. No hidden extras

You’ll occasionally see deals online for surf charters where the price seems too good to be true. It usually is, with hidden taxes, extra fuel-surcharges and upgrades unaccounted for.

The quote you’ll receive from Renegade includes absolutely everything except your international flights, cash for the bar, travel insurance, and tips. All taxes (inc GST, Green Tax, Tourist Tax etc) are all accounted for, fuel to your chosen region is covered and all of the delicious food and water is included as standard.

Tips for the local crew can be given in USD or MVR (Maldivian Rufiyah) and a rough guideline is $10USD per guest per day – though this is entirely up to you.

An Ocean View Suite on Theia. A new view every morning…

5. 5* customer service

This is the main reason why we have a 35% return rate and why both private groups and solo surfers (for our scheduled coaching trips) choose to book with us year after year.

We’re established enough to know every in and out of organising the perfect Maldives Surf Charter, but we’re still small enough to know our customers individually. Send us an email and you won’t be hearing from our sales team, you’ll be getting a direct reply from Dale, one of the owners. Alternatively, if you prefer to jump on a call, give our Whatsapp number a ring and you’ll be speaking with Simon, the founder and other half of Renegade.

We both love surfing, but one thing we love even more is hearing our guests say “best trip of my life”. We truly care.

Kefi. A fantastic option for budget travellers.
