After last year’s Renegade Surf Travel trip in the Maldives, we booked again almost immediately and going back for my second trip made it even more special. I knew a little more of what to expect, I was better prepared, and some of the things the surf coach had pointed out during last year’s surf coaching sessions had finally clicked. I was so excited to have the chance to surf the same spots again and see the difference. And it was SO much fun! Honestly, everything about this Maldives surf trip is just incredible. The waves over crystal-clear water are obviously a highlight, and we were incredibly lucky to have at least one session every day with only our group in the water. Erin, our surf coach, was an absolute gem. She went above and beyond to help everyone improve their surfing, giving really thoughtful and individual feedback throughout the trip. The boat crew were fantastic, the chef kept us very well fed with delicious and plentiful food, and our guides Yeaman and John organised everything seamlessly. From coordinating with other surf boats and keeping the schedule up to date, to arranging extra adventures like snorkelling, visiting a local island and exploring an uninhabited island. But there’s another part of this surf adventure that I think doesn’t get talked about enough: the effect it has on your nervous system. Yes, surfing is thrilling and gives you plenty of adrenaline. But at the same time, you’re completely immersed in nature almost 24/7. You’re in the water, on the water, watching the sunrise and sunset every day, eating well, sleeping on a boat and completely stepping away from the usual everyday stressors. There’s something incredibly powerful about being that disconnected from normal life and so closely aligned with the natural rhythm of the day. For me, that’s the magic combination: surfing for the kick, nature for the downregulation. Two trips in, and I already know I’ll be back again at some point. The coaching is what sets them apart — these guys actually watch you surf, break it down session by session with video analysis, and give you the kind of feedback that sticks. I came home surfing noticeably better, and that rarely happens. The food? Honestly didn't expect much on a boat. Big mistake — it was a highlight of the trip. Fresh, generous, proper meals after every session. Exactly what you need when you're surfing 3–4 times a day. Small groups, uncrowded waves, coaches who genuinely care. Crew, Pep, Edam and Rothen were great. Really well organised again, great atmosphere and good waves especially last half. Boat is great, good size and plenty of space, having starlink onboard is a big bonus.
