USE OUR 5 LEVELS TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT TRIP FOR YOU.
‘Intermediate’ and ‘Advanced’ are really broad terms, especially when 80% of surfers would claim to be some form of intermediate.
Check out the descriptions below to understand where you are in your surfing journey, and to choose the most suitable trip for you.
Please note, our surf levels are unique to us and do not necessarily correspond with levels used by other companies.
For more detail on how we define our surfing levels, download our ‘Path to Progression‘ road-map. This will show you which skills correlate to which level, as well as the next steps to progress your surfing.
We do not accept Level 1 or beginner surfers on any of our trips.
Level 2 surfers must be competent and consistent in their abilities, and may be asked to provide photos or videos of their surfing.
LEVEL 2
Level 2 surfers are surfing independently out the back and could be described as ‘lower intermediate’. Level 2 is the lowest level we can accommodate.
In order to join a level 2/3 trip, surfers must be able to handle themselves and their surfboard safely in conditions up to head-high, catch unbroken waves without assistance and consistently trim along the wave face – both frontside and backside.
If you cannot complete all of these skills, unfortunately our trips are not yet suitable for you.
Check out our breakdown of Level 2 skills in our Path to Progression.
LEVEL 3
Level 3 surfers are competent surfers performing horizontal manoeuvres in a range of conditions, and could otherwise be described as ‘upper intermediate’. Level 3 is the minimum requirement for our Level 3/4 trips.
Surfers must be able to generate speed, perform a basic cutback to the whitewater and execute carving bottom and top turns, both frontside and backside.
Level 3 surfers will find a place on both our Level 2/3 trips and Level 3/4 trips, depending on their confidence level.
Check out our breakdown of Level 3 skills in our Path to Progression.
LEVEL 4
Level 4 surfers are able to perform vertical manoeuvres in a wide range of conditions and could otherwise be described as ‘advanced’ surfers.
Level 4 surfers are confident in most conditions, including larger, hollow surf. They can perform committed manoeuvres in steeper sections, and are starting to get barreled when conditions allow.
Level 4 surfers will find maximum enjoyment and progression on our Level 3/4 trips.
Check out our breakdown of level 4 skills in our Path to Progression.
LEVEL 5
Level 5 surfers take all of the skills from level 4, but add a sprinkle of ‘x-factor’.
Level 5 surfers can express themselves freely on a wave, pulling from a deep bag of maneuvers, including fins-free turns, aerials and tube riding. Most level 5 surfers will have surfed since childhood and have experience with competitive surfing.
Level 5 surfers should join our Level 3/4 trips to make the most of our world-class coaches.
